The Sudbury Kinsmen announced Tuesday that it’s ending its Showcase Sweepstakes, which offered a top prize of a new home.

The draw will come to an end in its 40th edition in 2025. The event was a fundraiser for a number of charities in the city.

“While we fell short in the showcase sweepstakes, the 50/50 draw generated a profit for the charities,” the Kinsmen said in a statement.

“Regrettably, our next Showcase in 2025 will mark the conclusion of our Sweepstakes journey with the 40th Showcase Sweepstakes. Faced with a dwindling, aging membership and mounting costs, the challenges have become formidable.”

“The Sudbury Kinsmen would like to thank you for your continual support, as it’s your contribution that has been instrumental to the success of this community initiative,” the statement added.

The group offered a description of the home that will be up for grabs next year. It’s located on Nottingham Avenue, across from Hazelton Drive.

“This cozy slab-on-grade home with in-floor heating has everything you need on the main level,” the statement said

“A spacious entrance with a double closet, kitchen, dining room, living room, primary bedroom with ensuite, a guest washroom, mud/laundry room, and a double car garage. Upstairs, you'll find a large rec room, two bedrooms, a study, and a full bathroom. It's truly a home that will please everyone.”

The Kinsmen said the 2024 winners -- Tanya Chorney-Fernandez & Joshua Linklater-Wong – “are excited to be moving into their new home very soon.”

“Our grand opening is slated for April, so start stashing those loonies and toonies—just $1 a day will ensure you snag your last 6-pack of showcase tickets. Let's make 2025 a year to remember for the charities.”
