North Bay Ontario Provincial Police said Friday they are investigating reports of a black pickup truck offering people in Callander discounted rates to pave their driveways.

“They also may attend your property to start the work however do not complete it,” police said on social media.

“Trust your instincts, if the offer is too good to be true or if it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.”

Tips to avoid becoming a victim of fraud include not providing payment before the work is done or signing a contract with a door-to-door solicitor.

“Beware of significantly low prices being offered for work or services,” police said.

“Research contractors, read reviews and look up companies online. Call or physically attend the company to assure it is a valid business and valid offer.”

Anyone with information regarding the driveway paving fraud is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit information online where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
