SUDBURY -- Greater Sudbury police say they are searching for a man after a shooting in the city’s Donovan neighbourhood Sunday afternoon.
Officers say they responded to the call around 3 p.m. Sunday, and as a result of the incident, one man was sent to Health Sciences North with non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released.
A heavy police presence, including tactical officers, were seen on Antwerp Avenue near Jean Street.
“Criminal investigations continues to investigate this matter,” says Staff Sergeant Daryl Adams. “What we do know, at this point, is it appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety beyond the incident.”
Officers say they are searching for a black male, about six feet tall, with a dark coloured jacket with fur around the hood.
Bob Deppisch is a pastor at nearby Grace Family Church and he says he has been serving the community here for over three decades and has always felt safe, even after hearing of situations like this.
"We can over read into situations, saying 'this is a really scary, dangerous thing,' when it's not that. Now, I don’t know if that’s exactly the case…I'm sure the police have a lot more details and know what’s going on. Nut the police are there and they look like they did a fantastic job. They had that area covered right off and so, I think, it’s safe. Our police know that they’re doing,” said Deppisch.
