Police say Sault suspect went on mini-crime spree

A 31-year-old suspect in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with numerous offences related to incidents beginning Feb. 5 and ending Feb. 14.

Police received the first report Feb. 6 about an incident on Huron Street Feb. 5.

“It was reported the accused, who is known to the victim, had smashed a headlight on the victim’s vehicle when they were asked to leave their property,” Sault police said in a news release Thursday.

“Officers obtained a warrant for their arrest.”

On Feb. 12, police responded to a break-and-enter at a business’s outbuilding on Third Line West.

“Although the accused fled prior to officers’ arrival, an investigation revealed the accused broke in, damaged property, and stole items from the business,” police said.

And on Feb. 14, police were called about a shoplifter in the custody of security officers at a business on McNabb Street.

“The accused had attempted to run from the business without attempting to pay for more than $400 of items,” police said.

“Officers were dispatched to the business and the accused was arrested.”

Charges include break and enter, two counts of theft under $5,000 and three counts each of mischief under $5,000 and violating probation orders.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
