A 45-year-old man from Warren is accused of impaired driving with contraband cigarettes in the vehicle.

The arrest took place in the early morning hours of Aug. 6 during a traffic stop on Rabbit Trail Road in Markstay-Warren.

"It was determined that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage and was arrested for impaired driving," police said in a news release Wednesday.

"The driver was then transported to the Sudbury OPP detachment for further testing."

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located open liquor and a quantity of unmarked cigarettes during a search of the vehicle.

The suspect is charged with numerous offences, including impaired driving, driving motor vehicle with open containers of liquor and possession of unmarked cigarettes.

The driver received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

“If you see a possible impaired driver on our roadways, waterways, or trails, please ‘make the call,’ and dial 9-1-1 as impaired driving never ends well,” said police.

“Please plan a way to get home safely.”

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 20 in Sudbury.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.
