Police say drug-impaired driver in the Sault was asleep at the wheel, motor running

One person has been charged after police in the Sault received a report of someone asleep at the wheel last weekend in a parking lot on Bay Street.
A 911 call came in around 9:40 p.m. Oct. 25 and police arrived at the parking lot a short time later to find someone sleeping in the driver's seat of a vehicle with its motor running.
Police woke them up and a brief conversation led police to suspect they were impaired.
"Officers conducted a standardized field sobriety test and the accused performed poorly," police said in a news release Monday.

They were evaluated by a drug recognition expert at police headquarters, who concluded the suspect was impaired by drugs.
The 41-year-old suspect was charged with two drugged driving-related charges and release.
They are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 23.
