SUDBURY -- Several specialty police units have been called in to help search for a missing 18-year-old from Hearst who was last seen May 10.

Residents in the small northern Ontario town of just over 5,000 people, northwest of Timmins, will have noticed a heavy police presence over the weekend.

Ontario provincial police have been searching for Alphonso Ferguson since May 13 and have now enlisted the help of the emergency response team, canine unit, helicopter unit, underwater search & recovery unit, marine unit, criminal investigations unit, as well as the Ministry of Natural Resources And Forestry.

Const. Stephanie Belec says police are concerned for his well-being.

Ferguson was last seen at 11:43 p.m. around the area of George Street and 8th Street wearing a white hoodie with dark coloured strings and markings on the outside of the sleeves with light blue pants, possibly jeans. He is described as a 5'11" black male, with black hair and brown eyes, 175 lbs with an athletic build.

Police are asking the public in the area to check their property for any signs of the missing teen and report anything out of the ordinary. Const. Belec says any information could be valuable, in helping detectives piece together what happened, even if it seems insignificant.

Const. Belec says the search is ongoing and there is no threat to public safety.
