Police launch Operation Impact for the long weekend

Share

If you're heading north or south this weekend, or even just driving through the city, expect to see more police patrolling the roadways.

It is all a part of their long weekend campaign called Operation Impact; a joint venture between local police and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

"Everybody on deck is going to be patrolling the roads this weekend," said OPP Sergeant Carlo Berardi.

"It's one of our busiest weekends so we will be enforcing the big four; impaired driving, inattentive driving, aggressive driving and not wearing your seatbelt."

Operation Impact is in place this long weekend to make sure everyone gets to and from Thanksgiving gatherings safely.

"The aim is to make sure everyone can enjoy this Thanksgiving weekend,” Constable Austen Kooy with the North Bay Police Service told CTV News.

“So, you're going to see more police on the road. More patrols in and around, so don't be shocked. As we will be out there making sure it's safe."

In keeping with this year's campaign theme, officers said they are counting on all drivers to "put their best foot forward by putting the brakes on bad driving behaviours."
