Police officials and the coroner’s office are investigating the death of a northern child.
The Ontario Province Police, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and Cochrane District Emergency Medical Services were called to assist a child in medical distress on Constance Lake First Nation on Saturday at around 12:45 p.m.
A four-year-old female, from Constance Lake First Nation, was transported to a local hospital; where she was pronounced deceased.
“Officers with the OPP Crime Unit in James Bay, Forensic Identification Services and the NAPS Crime Unit are assisting with the investigation under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch,” reads a statement from police.
In a media release issued on Wednesday, the OPP said further medical testing is required, following a post-mortem examination.
"A post-mortem examination was performed, however, the cause of death has not been determined," said police.
The investigation is ongoing.
