Police investigating death of a baby in Elliot Lake

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after an infant was brought to the hospital in Elliot Lake on Saturday morning with no vital signs and was later pronounced dead.

Police arrived at the hospital shortly after 10:45 a.m., where the Algoma Paramedic Services had transported an infant with no vital signs.

“A post-mortem examination will be taking place in Toronto,” the OPP said in a news release Monday.

“The investigation is in its early stages and no further details can be released at this time. Further information will be provided when it becomes available.”

The investigation is being conducted under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
