SUDBURY -- Someone entered the RBC bank in Timmins on Thursday night and started a fire in the vestibule next to the bank machine.

The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. at the Royal Bank of Canada at the 101 Mall in Timmins.

"An unknown suspect dressed in dark clothing attended the facility and attempted to set it on fire and then fled the area on foot, heading in a northerly direction on Pine Street," the Timmins Police Service said Friday in a news release.

"The Timmins Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire that, along with the triggered sprinkler system, caused significant damage to banking equipment and the immediate area around the ATM."
