SUDBURY -- In the early morning hours of Nov. 13, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the North Bay detachment responded to a call of a pedestrian on Highway 17 near Mattawa, Ont. Before police could reach the individual, the 33-year-old was struck by a vehicle and later died at the scene.

Police are not releasing the identity of the victim but have confirmed they are from London, Ont.

The incident took place in Papineau-Cameron Township approx. five minutes east of Mattawa, Ont.

Investigators closed two lanes on Highway 17 for seven hours with traffic reduced to one lane.

The investigation will continue with assistance from the OPP Technical Collision Investigation team.  A post mortem examination is scheduled for Nov. 17.
