West Nipissing Police responded to a disturbance call at an apartment on William Street in Sturgeon Falls shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Upon arrival, they found a male and injured 39-year-old female.
Police took the man immediately into custody and the woman was taken to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The OPP’s Forensic Identification Unit has been called in to assist with the investigation that is being deemed criminal and suspicious.
