Early Monday morning, Timmins police were called to the Porcupine Mall where a body was discovered on the property.

Police say that the body of an Indigenous woman believed to be in her 30’s was found on mall property around 6:40 am on Monday.

They have yet to determine the identity of the woman or the cause of death, but police say they have not ruled out foul play.

Timmins police are treating it as an isolated incident and say there is no cause for public concern.

“The body has since been removed and is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Those details have yet to be worked out, nonetheless that will give us a starting point as to where the investigation carries forward. Anyone with relevant information is kindly asked to alert the Timmins police by whatever means they deem necessary.” said Marc Depatie, of Timmins Police Service.

Part of the mall was closed for the investigation, but it has since been reopened.
