The victim has been identified as Jeremy Atkins, 43, of Parry Sound.

Police responded Thursday with several specialized units, including the marine unit and the OPP underwater search and recovery unit. Also responding were Parry Sound Fire Services, and Parry Sound District emergency medical services.

"Investigation revealed witnesses saw a person enter the river, lost sight of the individual and called EMS," police said in a news release Friday.

The man's body was located, and an investigation has begun under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.
