SUDBURY -- The Ontario Provincial Police have identified the two people killed Wednesday while driving their bikes in Temiskaming Shores.

The two cyclists have been identified as Garnett Johnson, 74, of Temiskaming Shores and Jeffrey Splinter, age 57, of Sault Ste. Marie.

Lakeshore Road was closed for several hours and has since re-opened.

Two people have been killed in Temiskaming Shores, after two bike riders and a transit bus in the community collided.

The tragedy took place around 2 p.m. Wednesday on Lakeshore road in New Liskeard.

In a news release, the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said they responded to the call along with emergency medical staff and the fire department.

"The OPP's technical traffic collision investigators and the Office of the Chief Coroner- Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are assisting with this investigation," police said in a news release. "The two cyclists have been confirmed deceased."

Further information will be provided as it becomes available, the OPP said.

"Lakeshore Road remains closed between Melville Street and Radley's Hill," police said. "It is unknown when it will re-open."

OPP is advising motorists to drive carefully and to use the detour to avoid the crash scene.
