SUDBURY -- A 30-year-old man is facing several drug and other charges after police found him asleep at the wheel in a parking lot in Elliot Lake.

Not only was he sleeping, he had cocaine, opioids and other drugs in the vehicle, along with stolen property. And he was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.

The incident began Sept. 20 around 7:43 p.m., when the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were called to Spruce Beach parking lot Elliot Lake "regarding an unconscious person in the driver's seat of a vehicle," police said in a news release Monday.

"Police recognized the driver and knew they were already wanted for a previous mischief and breach occurrence from Sept. 19," the release said. "The passed out driver declined medical assistance who stated they were just tired after being on a multi-day binge."

The man was then arrested and police seized suspected fentanyl, cocaine, and numerous drug related paraphernalia.

The 30-year-old is charged with opioid possession for the purpose of trafficking, cocaine possession, opioid possession, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, failing to comply with an undertaking and failure to comply with a release order.

He was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Sept. 21.
