The OPP are now treating the investigation as a homicide based on the evidence in the post mortem evaluation.
Police say an autopsy was concluded this week on the body of 31-year-old Joseph Topping of Elliot Lake.

On February 14, 2018, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police located human remains in a wooded area within the City of Elliot Lake.
Police now say they have determined the remains are that of missing person, 31-year-old Joseph Topping of Elliot Lake.
Topping was reported missing on January 8th.
A post mortem investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Chief Coroner in Sault Ste. Marie.
