SUDBURY -- Police in Mattawa have arrested a driver whose licence was suspended in 2004, and who has been prohibited from driving since 2006.

The man was arrested June 25 at 10 a.m. when the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police were patrolling on McConnell Street in Mattawa.

"The officer stopped a vehicle for a licence plate violation and began an investigation into the driver," police said in a news release. "The driver was found to be suspended (Highway Traffic Act) since 2004 and a prohibited driver (Criminal Code) since 2006."

A 36-year-old from Bonfield is now charged with driving while prohibited, driving without a valid permit and using a license plate not authorized for the vehicle.

The accused was released on a summons and an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Mattawa on Sept. 2.

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
