Police appeal for witnesses, video footage in death investigation on St. Joseph Island

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are appealing for more information as they continue to investigate a "suspicious death" that happened this month on St. Joseph Island, southeast of Sault Ste. Marie.

On Jan. 6, around 2:45 p.m., officers were called to the vicinity of P Line Road in Jocelyn Township after reports of a deceased person being located.

"The East Algoma OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service," an OPP news release said.

"The investigation is ongoing. Further information will be provided when it becomes available."

Investigators are urging anyone with video or dash camera footage of P Line Road or nearby areas between 9 a.m. Jan. 4 and 3:15 p.m. Jan. 6 to upload the recordings online here.

Alternatively, police are asking anyone with information related to the investigation to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
