Plate reader alert results in traffic stop, arrest in Elliot Lake: OPP
Officers with East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle in Elliot Lake after receiving a notification from their automated licence plate reader last week.
Police were conducting regular patrol duties near Spruce Avenue and Highway 108 at about 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 4 when they received the alert, provincial police said in a news release.
"The vehicle was followed and subsequently stopped," said police.
"OPP arrested a person after a traffic stop on Pine Road."
As a result of the incident, a 31-year-old from Serpent River First Nation was charged with failing to comply with a release order, permitting operation of a motor vehicle without insurance and operating an unsafe motor vehicle.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Blind River last week.
None of the accusations has been proven in court.
