Officers with East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle in Elliot Lake after receiving a notification from their automated licence plate reader last week.

Police were conducting regular patrol duties near Spruce Avenue and Highway 108 at about 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 4 when they received the alert, provincial police said in a news release.

"The vehicle was followed and subsequently stopped," said police.

"OPP arrested a person after a traffic stop on Pine Road."

As a result of the incident, a 31-year-old from Serpent River First Nation was charged with failing to comply with a release order, permitting operation of a motor vehicle without insurance and operating an unsafe motor vehicle.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Blind River last week.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
