SUDBURY -- A Chelmsford man is facing careless driving charges after a pickup truck veered into an oncoming motorcycle Friday on Highway 144.

The Ontario Provincial Police in Sudbury say the collision took place around 1:25 p.m. at Lavallee Road. The motorcycle driver was taken to Health Sciences North with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

"Preliminary investigation revealed the pickup truck was eastbound on Lavallee Road and proceeded across Highway 144 into the path of a northbound motorcycle," police said in a news release.

The 22-year-old pickup driver was not injured, but he is charged with careless driving causing bodily harm.

Highway 144 was closed for a short period of time but has since re-opened.
