SUDBURY -- It was a so-called rabbit season Friday in New Sudbury as the Easter Bunny sent two of his best helpers out to spread some Easter cheer.

The world's number one rabbit is busy these days since being declared an essential worker, so a Sudbury city councillor decided to help pitch in and take his place.

Ward 11's Bill Leduc was one of two rabbits who stood outside the Westmount Retirement Residence, waving to residents inside the building.

"As Peter Cottontail, we have to make our rounds through the city to everybody, so even the seniors in the retirement home, I have to make my personal visit to everyone," said Leduc. "Everyone so far is loving it, Finlandia is loving it, Westmount Retirement Home is loving it, Extendicare York is loving all of this, all the kids in the neighbourhood are loving this."

The two danced, blew kisses and waved to seniors inside to let them know they haven't been forgotten about during this long weekend.

Seniors could be seen smiling and waving back at the local councillor from the facility's dining hall.

He doesn't plan on stopping there. Leduc, or "Cottaintail" as he's known as this weekend, says he's got a schedule full of surprise visits Friday and Saturday.
