SUDBURY -- A Sudbury family says it is on high alert after catching a "Peeping Tom" spying on a teenage girl in the shower.

The incident happened Wednesday night in the New Sudbury neighbourhood of the city, when the teen's stepdad reportedly caught someone looking through the bathroom window.

In order to maintain the privacy of the teenager, the family's name is being withheld.

The family says when the accused realized they had been spotted; they drove away in a truck. However, the stepdad was able to take down the licence plate number.

Sudbury police confirm a 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with voyeurism and trespassing at night, but has been released on a promise to appear in court.

As can be expected, the teen is still rattled following the invasion of privacy.

Her mother says that extra security measures are being put in place and they are on the lookout for anything suspicious.

Sudbury police say the name of the man accused cannot be released because it has not been sworn through the court, and when someone is released on a promise to appear, it can take some time.

The man accused is scheduled to appear before the court on Jan. 15.
