Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Chelmsford on Saturday
Ontario Provincial Police say one person was hurt Oct. 26 in Chelmsford in Greater Sudbury when they were struck in a crosswalk by a vehicle turning left.
The victim was taken to Health Sciences North with non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a news release. The 64-year-old driver has been charged.
The collision took place at 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of Edward Avenue and Highway 144. The roadway was closed for several hours.
"The pedestrian was struck while crossing in the crosswalk by a vehicle attempting to make a left-hand turn and then was transported to the local hospital by EMS," the OPP said.
The driver, who is from Chelmsford, was charged with fail to yield to pedestrian on roadway.
"The OPP would like to remind motorists to come to a full stop when approaching a crosswalk with pedestrians waiting to cross, yield the right of way and wait until they have crossed completely," the release said.
"Stay alert and avoid distractions like texting or using your phone and watch for pedestrians at all times."
