SUDBURY -- Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for many northeastern communities where up to 50 mm of rain is expected on Monday.

A rainstorm moving from Sault Ste. Marie to the James Bay coast is expected to begin Monday morning with rainfall becoming heavy in the afternoon.

Total rainfall between 30 to 50 mm is possible by Tuesday morning.

Communities affected include:

  • Agawa – Lake Superior Park
  • Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake
  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake
  • Fraserdale - Pledger Lake
  • Gogama – Foleyet
  • Fort Albany
  • Kapuskasing - Hearst - Smooth Rock Falls
  • Little Abitibi - Kesagami Lake
  • Moosonee
  • Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay
  • Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls

A flood watch continues along the shores of Lake Superior as water levels remain well above normal after being issued Sept. 8 by Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority.

At the time of publication, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority is reporting normal water levels.
