Outloud North Bay celebrates third anniversary

Share

The Outloud community centre in North Bay is a safe space for the 2SLGBTQA+ community and all youth opened its doors just two weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The centre celebrated its third anniversary Saturday.

Officials with the centre told CTV News they have seen more than 1,200 youth come through the doors and partake in activities Outloud offers.

Seth Compton, the founder of Outloud, said it is unfortunate safe places like this one are needed, but he believes it is making a difference.

"We started out at a space on Oak and Ferguson that was about 900-square feet and now we're here (the Delaware Avenue location) – 4,000 square feet,” said Compton.

“This is success, this is living and building a dream for our community and the kids love it. I see the difference that it's made in some families and some kids in our community and for me that's what matters."

Compton said after seeing the success and growth at Outloud in North Bay, he hopes to one day expand to other cities across the north.
