Cold temperatures continue to grip Ottawa

Cold temperatures continue to grip Ottawa for a third straight day, but relief is on the way from the frigid temperatures.

The temperature was -19.1 C at 6 a.m., with the wind chill making it feel like -24.

Environment Canada’s forecast calls for a high of -12 C today and a low of -22 C tonight, before temperatures return to seasonal levels Wednesday night and Thursday.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of -6 C and a low of -16 C.

Ottawa will see a mix of sun and cloud today with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. High -12 C with the wind chill making it feel like -19 this afternoon.

A few clouds tonight. Low -22 C, with the wind chill of -29 overnight.

A mix of sun and cloud is expected on Wednesday. High -12 C.

Thursday will be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries. High -7 C.

The outlook for Friday calls for a mix of sun and cloud. High -10 C.

Saturday will be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. High -6 C.

This is the coldest stretch of weather in Ottawa in nearly two years. The temperature dropped to -19.8 C on Monday.

Places to warm up

As Ottawa experiences the coldest temperatures of the year, the city says there are places where people can warm up.

“You can go to any of our public libraries, our community centres,” Coun. Stephanie Plante said. “There’s actually a map on the City of Ottawa website that details where people can go to warm up, and it’s on the public health website as well.”
