SUDBURY -- The Nipissing West OPP have charged two people with assaulting their spouses, in incidents that took place within hours of each other.

The first incident took place May 24 at 1:40 a.m. Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on King Street West in St. Charles.

As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old from St. Charles was arrested and charged with spousal assault and domestic mischief, police said in a news release.

"The accused was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 24, 2020 in Sudbury."

The second incident also took place May 24. At 11:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Highway 17 in Markstay-Warren.

"As a result of the investigation, a 59-year-old, from Markstay-Warren, was arrested and charged," police said in a news release Tuesday.

Charges include spousal assault, assault causing bodily harm, and uttering threats to cause bodily harm.

"The accused was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 7, 2020, in Sudbury," the release said.
