SUDBURY -- Timmins police told CTV's Sergio Arangio Thursday night that technicians are on the way from the OPP explosive disposal unit in Gravenhurst and are expected to arrive by nightfall to collect any material/devices.

The explosives include a blasting cap and evidence of dismantled ammunition. That could be a sign that there could be more explosive material in the building, police said.

The building is more of a residential house than a large apartment building.

Original story:

Members of the public in Timmins are being asked to avoid Balsam Street North, where police have evacuated a building where explosive devices have been found.

"This is a measure deemed necessary in relation to explosive devices that were coincidentally located by officers in the course of an unrelated call for service at this address earlier this afternoon," the Timmins Police Service said in a news release Thursday.

Police have called in the Ontario Provincial Police’s explosive disposal unit to dispose of the devices.

"Technicians within that unit are currently en route to the scene with no determined estimated time of arrival at present," police said. "The immediate area remains under control of the Timmins Police Service for the time being as a precautionary measure."

The matter is contained to a specific address, police added, and there is no active threat to the safety of residents in the area.
