The Ontario Provincial Police are out with their statistics from the long weekend.

They say over 750 charges were laid, and just over 500 of them were handed out for speeding.

Officials say the number isn't up by much from last year, but they do say they are seeing a steady increase in the number of people who just aren't getting the message to put down the phone and slow down.

"In the Powassan area… someone was driving 182 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, and that is just not acceptable. We need everybody to slow down, especially those high milers because they really cause a danger on our highway," said OPP Acting Sergeant Shona Camirand.

Police say that across the province, seven people died in six separate road collisions over the long weekend, which is a total of two more than during the same period last year.
