One taken to hospital after shooting on Sixth Avenue in Timmins

Timmins police are investigating an overnight shooting in the area of Sixth Avenue on Wednesday that sent one person to hospital.

Officers responding to a report of gunshots being fired found one victim, "who was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries," Timmins police said in a news release.

The local criminal investigation division is looking into the matter.

"Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the -Timmins Police Service directly at 705-264-1201 or the Crime Stopper tip line at 1-800-222-8477."

Ethan Chapleau-Fletcher lives at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Pine Street North and told CTV News he was woken up to what sounded like gunshots around 2:30 a.m.

"Once a week 6th is blocked off. When is something actually going to be done?" Sasha James commented on his social media post about the incident. 

"I live right near here and I avoid this block as much as I can," Ashley Charlene commented on his post.

A video Chapleau-Fletcher took shows several police cars and an ambulance on the snowy street.

When CTV News videojournalist Lydia Chubak arrived at the scene around noon, there were no police vehicles in the immediate area.

Chubak said she saw some on a different street in the vicinity.
