A serious crash involving two vehicles has left one person dead and Highway 101 closed in the Timmins area for more than 12 hours Thursday, police say.

The collision happened before 1 a.m. between a commercial vehicle and a pickup truck in the Hoyle Township area just west of Frederick House Lake Road near the Kidd Creek Met site, Ontario Provincial Police Const. Michelle Simard told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in a phone interview.

The driver of the pickup sustained fatal injuries, Simard said in an email to CTV News.

Simard said the road reopened around 2 p.m.

Technical investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
