One charged with stealing donations from poppy box in Kirkland Lake

A 19-year-old from Kirkland Lake has been charged after a Royal Canadian Legion branch in the community reported someone stole poppies and donations.

The theft was reported Nov. 19, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Tuesday.

Police "received a report from Legion Branch 87 regarding the theft of Remembrance Day poppies and monetary donations from a business on Government Road in Kirkland Lake," the release said.

The investigation led to charges for the 19-year-old, including theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Jan. 9.
