One charged with setting a fire on an apartment porch in Kirkland Lake

A suspect has been charged with arson following an incident at an apartment building in Kirkland Lake on Oct. 19.

Ontario Provincial Police and Kirkland Lake Fire Services responded around 9:40 p.m. to a fire within the porch of an apartment building on Government Road West.

"The fire was extinguished and damage was limited to the floor in the porch area of the building," police said in a news release Saturday.

"The Kirkland Lake OPP crime unit was engaged and assisted with the investigation, leading to the arrest of one person on Oct. 24."

A 38-year-old from Kirkland Lake has been charged with arson and failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused remains in custody and was scheduled to next appear virtually before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Oct. 30.
