SUDBURY -- Ontario Provincial Police has charged a 16-year-old with dangerous operation after allegedly hitting a pedestrian with a truck in a parking lot on Highway 17 east of Sault Ste. Marie and driving off.
It happened Halloween night around 9:45 p.m., when the accused allegedly drove a black pick-up truck aggressively toward a group of three people in a carpool parking lot in Tarbutt-Tarbutt Additional Township at the junction of Highways 548 and 17, police said in a news release.
An 18-year-old was hit and knocked to the ground by the truck and the accused allegedly drove off without stopping to check on the individual. The teen was taken to hospital in Richard's Landing with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck was known to the group of pedestrians and had reportedly tried to hit them earlier that evening at a gas station parking lot, police said.
"Shortly after 12:30 a.m., on Nov. 1, a 16-year-old, from Echo Bay was charged with two counts of dangerous operation," said police.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 7 in Blind River.
