Northern police say break-and-enter suspect walked into Hwy. 11 traffic
A 30-year-old suspect who robbed a residence in Hearst, Ont., was arrested when they left the crime scene and walked into highway traffic.
The incident took place May 5 on Quirion Street in the community.
Ontario Provincial Police were responding to the call about the break-and-enter when another report came in about someone walking into traffic along Highway 11, close to the original call for service.
“An investigation determined the person walking along Highway 11 was in possession of items taken from the residence of the break and enter,” the OPP said in a news release Thursday.
The suspect, who is from Constance Lake, was charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft, mischief, unlawfully being in a house and possession of an identity document.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to next appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 10 in Hearst.
“The OPP would like to remind the public that locking the doors of your residence and vehicles can deter would-be criminals an easy opportunity to take your belongings or invade your privacy,” police said.
“Lock it up and keep your property safe.”
