Some of the northern Ontario's youngest cancer survivors are displaying their bravery with a new fundraising project.

The Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC) held the launch party for their 2020 Superhero Calendar. It features 12 young cancer survivors from across the north posing as their favourite superheroes.

It is an initiative created by local photographer Helga Himer.

Organizers say the inspiration came from the idea that kids battling cancer are often associated with superheroes.

The funds raised will be going towards the 23 different programs that are run by the organization.

Dayna Caruso is the executive director of the NOFCC. She says the group offers supports to northern Ontario families while their children are undergoing cancer treatment.

"We cover things like parking, accommodations, the list goes on," said Caruso.

The calendars have been a huge hit, with the first batch already selling out.
