The Idylwylde Curling Club in Greater Sudbury is hosting the Northern Ontario Mixed Doubles competition this weekend.

There are 16 teams made up of competitors from Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, Manitoulin Island, Sudbury and Thunder Bay.

Organizers of the event said it is a high level of competition requiring training, preparation and good team communication.

“We have some really extremely competitive teams,” said Barb Nott, chair of the Northern Ontario Mixed Doubles event.

The winner of the competition will advance to the National Mixed Doubles in March.

“Mixed doubles consists of one female and one male representative,” Nott said.

“We have some people who are competing here today who are off to the Scotties, which is the ladies tournament as well; we have got people who are going to the Brier representing northern Ontario.”

The National Mixed Doubles competition will also be held in Greater Sudbury. The national competition will take place March 21-26 at Countryside Arena.
