A Timmins youth has been arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, police say.

Members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police said the incident took place shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday morning in Clute Township, west of Cochrane.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11, which was closed at the time due to inclement weather.

“The vehicle had been reported as stolen out of Timmins,” said the OPP in a news release Saturday.

“As a result, a 16-year-old person from Timmins, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested.”

The accused youth is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, driving without a licence and driving on a closed highway.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Cochrane at a later date.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.
