Northern Ont. suspect had illegal drugs, cigarettes, police say

Police in northwestern Ontario raided a residence in Manitouwadge this week and seized 13,000 illegal cigarettes along with prohibited drugs.

Ontario Provincial Police executed a search warrant around 1 p.m. Aug. 29 at a residence on Wendego Street.

"The investigation resulted in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of 125 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, codeine, and 13,000 illegal cigarettes," police said in a news release Friday.

"Canadian currency and other items associated with drug trafficking were also seized."

The 52-year-old suspect is charged with trafficking in contraband cigarettes, drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of unmarked cigarettes for sale.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
