Northern Ont. senior facing weapons, domestic charges

Northern Ont. senior facing more than a dozen charges following domestic violence investigation last month.

On June 25, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a domestic-related incident in the Township of Armour.

“One person was arrested,” said police in a news release.

“In addition, a search warrant was later executed.”

As a result of the investigation, a 72-year-old was charged with three counts of sexual assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to a spouse, assault causing bodily harm to a spouse, domestic mischief, two additional counts of assault, assault causing bodily harm (choke, suffocate or strangle), theft and breach of recognizance as well as several weapons-related offences including using a firearm while committing a criminal offence and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused was remanded into custody, pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

“Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim(s,)” said police.
