Ontario Provincial Police responding to a different call March 17 discovered a driver slumped over the wheel in a running parked car on Main Street in the Town of Thessalon.

The OPP said they made the discovery shortly after 2:30 p.m. and approached the vehicle to determine what was going on.

Officers “determined the driver to be impaired and was subsequently arrested,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

“The driver was transported to local hospital in Blind River via Algoma Paramedic Services.”

Once released from hospital, the 38-year-old from Sudbury was charged with impaired driving and opioid possession (other than heroin.)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 11.

The driver was also issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
