SUDBURY -- A northern-based musical duo is taking to social media Saturday night to spread some holiday cheer while also hoping to help the community.

Frankly Speaking, a duo consisting of friends Frank Greco and Frank Gioia, will be holding their fourth online concert Saturday evening on Facebook.

The livestreamed event is titled 'Rock On To The Sounds Of Christmas" where they tackle some of their favourite hits from musicians like Paul McCartney and Elton John.

"We've got a few songs there that we've enjoyed listening to for years, and we thought this was a good time to learn the chords and actually do our version of it," said Greco.

The Sault Ste. Marie-based duo says their first show on Facebook managed to attract approximately 3000 viewers.

While they admit the pandemic has brought on many challenges for them as musicians, saying they were busy with performances beforehand, they have managed to adapt to virtual performances.

"It's with the use of technology that we are able to get this to happen," said Greco.

"Otherwise, there's no way. So, we did a lot of dabbling with Facebook live and tried to figure that out."

While the pair are hoping to spread some much needed cheer ahead of the holidays, they are also hoping to raise funds for local food banks across the northeast.

"One of the songs that we're doing is called ‘Don't They Know It's Christmas Time’ and that was a song that was made popular in 1985 and it was around the famine crisis in Africa," said Gioia.

“That's what we really want to promote that evening. The idea of looking after northern communities through food banks."
