SUDBURY -- Rainfall warnings are issued across northeastern Ontario due to a storm that is expected to last the next two days and bring up to 50 mm of rain.

A weather system is moving eastward through the region and began in Sault Ste. Marie early Wednesday morning according to Environment Canada.

Wednesday afternoon, the rain is expected to reach from Gogama to New Liskeard and will continue in the region throughout Thursday.

The storm is expected to clear out near the Quebec border Thursday night and a total rainfall of 25 to 50 mm is expected.

Officials say because the ground is already near saturation, it has little ability to absorb further rainfall, so some areas could see some flooding or pooling.
