A 17-year-old from northeastern Ontario is accused of stealing approximately $84,000 in lottery scratch tickets from a business over several months, police say.

Officers responded to a report Feb. 12 about the theft from a Magnetawan business, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday.

"With the assistance of the OLG, it was determined that approximately $84,000 worth of lottery tickets were taken from the business over a period of months," OPP said.

Police arrested and charged a local teen with the theft.

The male accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court June 27.

Because the suspect is a minor, his name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The allegation hasn't been proven in court.
