Northeastern Ont. police stop vehicle for speeding, find $66K in drugs
Two men from northeastern Ontario are charged with drug trafficking after police find $66,000 in fentanyl and other substances during a traffic stop Thursday.
Officers from the Almaguin Highlands detachment were conducting enforcement on Highway 11 in Perry Township, north of Huntsville, just before 10 a.m. August 1, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.
After stopping a vehicle for speeding, a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, oxycodone, morphine, hydromorphone, hydromorphcontin and methamphetamine.
The 34-year-old driver from Callander and 35-year-old passenger from Powassan were arrested and charged with eight counts of drug trafficking and having proceeds of property obtained by crime.

The driver was additionally charged with nine offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
"Both parties were held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound," OPP said.
