North Bay students participating in the local school board's Summer Challenge Theatre Program are putting on a Disney musical.

Students within the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board Summer Challenge theatre have been rehearsing lines, learning cues and songs, and practicing choreography as they prepare to put on a production of Newsies later this week.

North Bay students put on the musical Newsies

The story is based on the real-life newsboy strike of 1899, a youth-led campaign against how the newspaper sellers were being compensated. This new Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city.

Performances will take place at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall in Bishop Carter Auditorium July 18- 20 at 7:00 pm.

Tickets are $10 at the door, or in advance at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall’s main office or at Creative Learning.

The Summer Challenge is an enrichment arts course offered through the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board’s summer school program. It gives youth ages 12-18 the opportunity to develop acting, singing, dancing, and production skills while earning credits towards their high school diploma.
