SUDBURY -- In a news release issued late Sunday afternoon, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit announced that a school in the Nipissing District has had an individual test positive for COVID-19.

The release did not name the school or school board and affirmed there is no outbreak at the time of publishing.

The health unit says it is working with the school board to notify all close contacts directly.

A notice on Near North District School Board's website has identified two positive cases at Chippewa Secondary School Monday morning.

In the release, public health officials said “there is no evidence to suggest that this case was exposed at school. At this time there is no outbreak at the school.”

The individual who tested positive is now self-isolating and is a close contact of another positive case in the district.

“Our staff are working with the school to provide important public health direction,” said Dr. Jim Chirico Medical Officer of Health.

“The Health Unit will be contacting close contacts of the case to provide further direction on isolation requirements and testing.”
